Distance matters. Don’t let planning rules remove oversight on wireless masts and antennas. Everyone should have a say, not just local authorities. You can take action in just a few minutes!

📌 Subject: Response to NPPF Consultation Question 95
Copy and paste this text: I strongly disagree with CO1 and CO2. The current wording allows operators to self-certify compliance without independent scrutiny. Certain risks, including those affecting children, people with metal implants, and other vulnerable groups, fall outside ICNIRP guidelines. Planning policy should allow local authorities AND THE PUBLIC to consider proximity, siting impacts, and cumulative exposure when reviewing telecommunications applications. Public health and environmental protection must remain a priority.
A year‑long review by the New Hampshire Commission recommended that new wireless antennas be sited at least 500 metres from homes, schools, and workplaces, based on the evidence (New Hampshire Commission, 2020 Final Report). The report is available online here.
Therefore, proximity to masts and small cells should not be assumed irrelevant during the planning process.
Optional (for those who want to add more weight): I do not consent to exposure to non-ionising electromagnetic radiation from new masts, antennas, small cells, Wi-Fi or smart meters near my home, school, workplace, or other public spaces. Evidence shows this exposure may increase cancer risk, neurological effects, oxidative stress, and affect wellbeing. Independent studies include the USA NTP Cellphone Research, Italian Ramazzini Institute, BioInitiative, IARC 2B Classification, and EMF Scientist Appeal.

Subject: Response to Consultation on Proposed Policy Change (NPPF Consultation Question 95)
Dear [Insert name or “Sir/Madam”],
I am writing as a concerned member of the public in response to the government consultation on telecommunications planning policy (NPPF Consultation Question 95). I strongly request that public health and safety protections are prioritised in planning policy and that local authorities and members of the public should be able to independently assess and raise concerns about wireless infrastructure siting and exposure. You can find more information on this at www.radiationresearch.org
My key concerns are:
- Exposure risks [Insert your concern, for example potential long-term health effects and risks to children, people with medical implants or other vulnerable groups]
- Planning oversight [Insert point, for example the need to retain independent planning oversight rather than industry self-certification]
- Precautionary policy [Insert additional point or reference scientific evidence, including independent research]
I strongly disagree with the proposed wording in CO1 and CO2 which would allow operators to self-certify compliance without sufficient scrutiny and may overlook critical health and environmental risks.
I respectfully ask that the consultation responses consider these points and that public health protections including meaningful public and local authority involvement are upheld in any policy changes.
Thank you for considering my response.
Yours sincerely
