🚨 Rising Thyroid Cancer and Smartphone Radiation: Our Response to the Daily Mail 🚨

On 19 January 2026, the Daily Mail published an article on the rising incidence of thyroid cancer among young people. While the article highlighted the experience of patients whose symptoms were dismissed, it primarily attributed the increase to improved screening.

We submitted the following letter to highlight important evidence on environmental risk factors, particularly radiofrequency (RF) radiation from smartphones. Our letter draws on Swedish research published in the Fortune Journal of Health Sciences and UK data, as well as expert commentary documented in our report, to emphasise that:

🔹 Thyroid cancer incidence has steadily increased over decades, beyond what overdiagnosis alone can explain.
🔹 RF radiation from modern smartphones directly exposes the thyroid, and similar rising thyroid cancer trends are now being seen in Sweden and the UK.
🔹 Independent research highlights biological plausibility for environmental contributions.

This is about raising awareness and calling for serious, independent investigation. Every young life affected deserves that attention.

Key Points:

♦ Swedish research (Hardell, Nilsson, Carlberg 2025) and UK data show thyroid cancer rising steadily across decades, trends that cannot be explained by overdiagnosis alone.

♦ Modern smartphones deliver RF radiation close to the thyroid, a radiosensitive organ, and similar rising trends are now seen in Sweden and the UK.

♦ Independent research and public discussion are critical to understand these trends and protect health, especially in younger adults.
