📌A major opinion piece in Aftonbladet, one of Sweden’s largest and most influential daily newspapers (English translation available), reports on warnings from Swedish experts highlighting alarming increases in memory, sleep, and neurological problems in children and adolescents in Sweden and Norway that the authors link to rising exposure to mobile phones, Wi‑Fi, and 5G radiofrequency (RF) radiation. The article cites strong parallel trends in diagnosed memory and sleep issues alongside increasing wireless use and RF exposure, and argues that these trends go beyond just social/behavioural effects of screen time, pointing to possible biological effects of RF radiation on developing brains. Swedish experts Lennart Hardell (Environment and Cancer Research Foundation, former professor and chief physician, Department of Oncology, Örebro University Hospital) and Mona Nilsson (Radiation Protection Foundation) call for urgent action to reassess exposure limits and protect children’s brains from RF radiation, including updated risk assessments and stricter exposure guidelines.

We have previously reported on this issue, documenting a continuing sharp rise in memory problems among children in Sweden and Norway (view our earlier report here). This evidence underscores the urgent need to address children’s exposure to RF/EMF radiation from wireless devices.

The experts are calling for urgent action, including updated risk assessments, stricter exposure limits, and stronger protection for children’s developing brains.

📌 UK Government focus: smartphone addiction and online wellbeing
Meanwhile, the UK Government has announced measures to improve children’s relationship with mobile phones and social media, centred on concerns about screen time, addictive features and mental wellbeing rather than RF exposure. The policy includes a national consultation on children’s use of technology, consideration of a social media ban for younger children, tougher guidance for schools to enforce mobile phone bans during the school day.

🐘 The elephant in the room?

Children can absorb up to 10 times more wireless radiation in the bone marrow of the skull than adults. Yet UK policy focuses on mental health and screen use while largely ignoring this risk. Swedish experts warn that RF/EMF radiation affects developing brains, not just behaviour. It is time for the UK Government to listen to independent experts and protect our children.
