Dr Robert O. Becker
Dr Robert O. Becker (1923–2008) was a twice Nobel Prize–nominated orthopaedic surgeon and researcher whose pioneering work helped establish the field of bioelectromagnetics. His research focused on the role of electrical processes in healing, regeneration, and biological regulation.
Today, the rapid expansion of wireless technologies has dramatically increased environmental exposure to man-made electromagnetic fields. This makes the early perspectives of researchers such as Becker increasingly relevant to ongoing scientific discussion.
The EM Radiation Research Trust raises awareness of electromagnetic radiation risks and advocates for safer technology. We agree with the late Dr. Robert O. Becker, who warned:
Dr. Robert O. Becker was a pioneering researcher in bioelectricity, author of Body Electric and Cross Currents. His warning about electromagnetic fields highlights the urgency of our work at the EM Radiation Research Trust.
Today, exposure to man-made electromagnetic fields is more widespread than at any point in human history. May 2026 discussions with Dr Andrew A. Marino continued to explore the biological significance of electromagnetic fields in modern environments.
A connected world, an invisible risk and the need to prioritise health and safety.
In today’s wireless world, electromagnetic radiation is all around us from mobile phone masts, mobile phones, Wi-Fi networks, smart meters, and other devices.
RF radiation combined with ELF and VLF fields creates a complex cocktail of signals, and currently no one is systematically checking their safety.
This invisible exposure affects communities every day, and protecting health is at the heart of the work of the EM Radiation Research Trust.
For over two decades, run entirely by volunteers and funded solely by public donations, the EM Radiation Research Trust has supported independent scientific research, informed communities, and pushed for policies that prioritise health and safety.
The EM Radiation Research Trust believes that prevention and precaution are essential, especially to protect children and vulnerable groups, and to ensure that technology serves society without compromising health.
The question raised by Becker remains central today: how do man-made electromagnetic fields interact with biological systems over time, and what level of precaution is appropriate in public health policy?
