We commend Senator Patrick O’Connor of Massachusetts for urging congressional leaders to investigate how the FCC oversees and studies wireless radiation exposure, particularly concerning 5G technology.
In his letter to Senator Warren, Senator Markey, and Congressman Lynch, Senator O’Connor highlighted:
- The rapid deployment of 5G: With hundreds of billions invested and over 800,000 new cell antenna sites planned in the U.S., 5G uses higher-frequency waves to connect more devices at faster speeds.
- ♦Potential health risks: Numerous studies show electromagnetic fields (EMF) can affect living organisms at levels well below most national and international guidelines. Reported effects include increased cancer risk, cellular stress, genetic damage, reproductive system changes, neurological deficits, learning and memory issues, and negative impacts on overall well-being. Environmental concerns are also growing, with evidence of harm to plant and animal life.
- ♦Calls for stronger protections: Over 240 scientists have signed the International EMF Scientist Appeal, urging stricter exposure limits.
- ♦Regulatory gaps: Despite these concerns, the FDA recently reaffirmed the FCC’s 1996 exposure limits without conducting a systematic risk review.
Senator O’Connor emphasised that constituents have expressed serious concerns about 5G installations near their homes, making further investigation essential.

We applaud Senator O’Connor for prioritising public health and advocating for science-based inquiry into emerging wireless technologies.
Meanwhile, the UK Government remains silent. No parliamentary hearings. No public investigations or consultation. No meaningful protections for communities facing 5G rollouts and wireless radiation.
It’s time the UK stopped ignoring the evidence.
