3 May 2026

Today we honour Saint Carlo Acutis on the anniversary of his birth in London on 3 May 1991.

Carlo Acutis is recognised within the Catholic Church as a saint and is widely known as the patron of the Internet. His life continues to speak powerfully to the modern world, particularly at a time when society is reflecting on the impact of digital technology, constant connectivity, and artificial intelligence.

Born at the beginning of the digital age, Carlo grew up alongside the rise of computers and the internet. Yet his life was marked not by dependence on technology, but by clarity, discipline, and a deep interior life rooted in his Catholic faith.

Carlo was skilled with computers and used them purposefully, most notably in his work cataloguing Eucharistic miracles and sharing them online in service of the Church’s evangelising mission. His approach to technology was intentional and disciplined, ensuring that digital life did not displace prayer, the sacraments, relationships, study, or engagement with the physical world.

In a recent address, Pope Leo XIV directly referred to Saint Carlo Acutis when speaking about technology in contemporary life. He presented Carlo as a clear example for our time, highlighting his skill with computers and his balanced, ordered use of technology, including his intentional limits on leisure and screen time. Through this balance, Carlo demonstrated a healthy and grounded way of living in a rapidly connected world.

The Pope concluded with a direct message:

“My friends, I encourage you to make sure technology serves your life and not the other way around.”

Carlo’s witness reflects this teaching in lived reality. Within the Catholic Church, he is increasingly seen as a model for young people navigating digital life.

He is our chosen patron saint for the EM Radiation Research Trust. His example continues to inspire our mission, especially our commitment to advocating for responsible technology and safeguarding children, who are among the most exposed and vulnerable in our wireless world.
