What the government calls ‘joy’ is raising serious concerns for many residents
The government has announced that over 100 mobile masts have been upgraded to deliver 4G coverage in rural Britain. Their headline reads “Signal all the way! Christmas comes early as over 100 mobile masts bring 4G joy to Britain’s rural communities.”

Many residents do not see this as “Christmas coming early.” Those with children, medical implants, chronic illnesses, cancer histories, or who are elderly or frail experience these installations as a source of concern rather than joy. Many are raising objections through planning applications citing public health risks, fire and safety concerns, visual intrusion, and property devaluation.
Mobile masts emit radiofrequency electromagnetic fields, classified by the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) as Group 2B: possibly carcinogenic to humans. Framing these installations as ‘joy’ overlooks the legitimate concerns of residents and is misleading.
Residents have the right to be informed, to have their concerns taken seriously, and to insist on independent health and safety assessments before further infrastructure is rolled out.
Call to Action: If you are affected by a mast installation or planning application, make your voice heard by your local council, your MP, and the Government directly. Stay informed: www.radiationresearch.org
