This flyer is a model for local communities raising objections to mobile mast upgrades, particularly when safety exclusions in public exposure guidelines affect:
- ◆ Children in schools or nurseries
- ◆ Residents with implantable medical devices or metallic implants
- ◆ Vulnerable populations in residential care
Key Points Highlighted in the Flyer
- Safety exclusions: Current public exposure guidelines do not account for people with implants (pacemakers, insulin pumps, joint replacements, dental metal, etc.).
- Legal precedent: Courts have ruled that local authorities must consider these risks (Thomas v Cheltenham Borough Council [2024] EWHC 1035 (Admin), upheld in 2025).
- Biological effects: WHO 2025 review confirms strong evidence that RF radiation can cause cancers and other health impacts in animals, with parallels in humans.
- Exposure limits: Official guidelines only consider short-term thermal effects, ignoring long-term biological harm. Other international standards recommend much lower safe limits.
Suggested Actions for Residents
- ◆ Contact local councils and ward councillors to question the approval process and raise safety concerns.
- ◆ Include details of anyone in your household with implants or vulnerabilities.
- ◆ Request site-specific risk assessments and public health evaluations.
- ◆ Refer councils to Castle Point Borough Council’s example of thorough consultation and risk mitigation.
- ◆ Complete the EM Radiation Research Trust non-consent form to formally refuse RF exposure in your home or local areas.
