Introduction from the EM Radiation Research Trust

As mobile phone networks continue to expand, so too do concerns about the potential health effects of radio-frequency electromagnetic fields (RF-EMF) from phone masts. A new peer-reviewed study from Aizawl, a densely populated city in Mizoram, India, highlights this growing public health issue. It found that residents living closer to mobile phone base stations reported significantly more health symptoms including mood changes, cognitive difficulties, inflammation, and physical discomfort. The strongest predictor of these symptoms was the level of RF-EMF exposure, particularly among younger individuals.

These findings underline the urgent need for precautionary measures when placing mobile phone towers in residential areas. We urge policymakers, planners, and communities to take this evidence seriously and apply the precautionary principle to protect public health.
