Bradford Council has refused plans for a towering 22.5m phone mast after 185 residents united and said NO.
Planning officers acknowledged:
βThe proposed development would result in a substantial degree of harm to the visual amenityβ¦ and would be visible from multiple points within the wider street scene.β
This is just one of many refusals that happen when communities come together and object. It shows the undeniable power of public action when people unite, they can stop inappropriate and harmful developments.
But this must go further.
π Following the Stephen Thomas case, the Radiation Research Trust urges planners to seriously consider the rights and safety of vulnerable groups including those with medical implants, electromagnetic hypersensitivity, and especially children. Visual impact is only one factor; planning decisions must prioritise public health, medical safety, fire safety, and human rights.
π Congratulations to every resident who raised their voice. Let this victory inspire communities across the UK we have the power to make a difference.
