Statement from Eileen O’Connor

On 10th July 2025, the Sefton Council meeting at Southport Town Hall ended abruptly following a heated exchange over 5G and public health concerns.

To provide context for the Sefton Council public meeting, watch the video “AWOL Sefton Councillors Appear To Have Lost The Plot When Council Meeting Is Abruptly Abandoned!” by YouTuber BANAMAN. It captures the chaotic proceedings and includes an interview outside the Town Hall with Eileen O’Connor, Director of the EM Radiation Research Trust (RRT), discussing Sefton Council’s rejection of the RRT’s questions on 5G and wireless technology.

During the meeting, a member of the public raised a submitted question asking whether the Council had ever refused any applications for 5G mobile phone masts on health grounds, particularly in relation to individuals with medical implants. The Council responded that it follows national government guidelines, including advice from Public Health England and the UK Health Security Agency, and stated that to their knowledge, no masts had been refused on health grounds.

At that point, a member of the public urgently shouted from the gallery, raising concerns about the Council’s failure to properly consider health and safety implications. He warned councillors that they would be held responsible for any harm caused to children and vulnerable residents, stating they were presiding over a potential genocide due to inaction on the health risks associated with 5G infrastructure. He also reminded councillors, including one who is a firefighter, of a local precedent where 2G and 3G masts were removed from a fire station due to health and safety concerns. He passionately emphasised the Council’s duty to protect public safety.

I joined the conversation from the public gallery to remind the Council that my carefully submitted public questions sent over a week earlier had been refused. These questions raised detailed concerns about vulnerable individuals with medical implants, as well as the World Health Organization’s latest findings linking radiofrequency (RF) radiation to cancer in animal studies. The Council rejected my questions on procedural grounds, citing a 12:00 p.m. cut-off time based on “custom and practice.” However, this deadline is neither stated in Sefton Council’s Constitution nor published anywhere for the public to see. This lack of transparency is not only unfair but also lacks any lawful or constitutional basis.

At this point, Cllr June Burns temporarily suspended the meeting. Although it resumed shortly after, it ended abruptly again, with councillors and members of the public leaving the Town Hall and police called to attend.

Following the meeting, I gave an interview explaining the Council’s unlawful rejection to allow my important public health and safety questions on 5G/RF wireless radiation to be heard.

I sent a formal complaint about the rejection of my questions, and Sefton Council has since admitted to our local MP that the 12:00 midday deadline they cited is neither stated in their Constitution nor published on their website. Despite this admission, the Council continues to rely on this so-called “custom and practice” to reject my questions even though they were submitted within the required five clear working days. I submitted my questions on Wednesday 2nd July for the 10th July meeting. I met the official five clear working days rule, yet my questions were still blocked. How many other valid public concerns have been quietly dismissed under this unpublished 12:00 midday cut-off rule?

This is unacceptable. Communities deserve openness, proper consultation, and accountability, not secret deadlines and decisions made behind closed doors.

I have called on Sefton Council to reinstate my questions at the next Full Council meeting without further delay. Should they fail to act, I am prepared to escalate the matter to the Local Government and Social Care Ombudsman to uphold accountability, transparency, and fairness.

👉 Police called to Town Hall as farcical Sefton Council meeting abandoned

This incident exposes a deeply concerning lack of transparency and a failure to properly address legitimate public health concerns. Sefton Council must urgently review its procedures to ensure that public questions are handled fairly and in accordance with constitutional rules. The health and safety of our community, especially vulnerable groups, must be prioritised.
