Dr Ronald Herberman, director of the University of Pittsburgh Cancer Institute, today publicised a warning for staff to keep phones away from their heads and only let children use them in emergencies.
We welcome the warnings about the dangers of mobile phones with regards to the brain tumour risk from one of the world’s leading cancer scientists Dr Ronald Herberman and would encourage the public to listen to his advice especially for children.
Concern is growing for public health especially our children as they are considered to be a sensitive group. Children are more prone to develop cancer than adults, because they have longer time to develop the disease and will absorb a higher dose of radiation. Many truly independent scientists believe this could be detrimental to health. The incidence of serious illnesses among those exposed to biologically active radiation is dramatically increasing, symptoms includes sleep disturbances, learning problems, unexplained anxiety, attention deficit disorder, Autism Spectrum Disorders, electro-hypersensitivity, brain tumours and various forms of cancer. This issue therefore demands urgent attention and it is critical for the Governments of the world to listen.
Existing science on brain tumours is stronger than being portrayed in interviews and news reports. Statistics from Professor Lennart Hardell, MD are available in the Bioinitiative Report, Chapter 10. Prof Lennart Hardell is presenting at the Radiation Research Trust London conference, in September, 2008 along with many world leaders the title of the conference is: EMF & Health a Global Issue, Exploring the appropriate precautionary approaches.
I would like to point out that Prof Will Stewart Chairman for IET is not Professor Sir William Stewart, Chairman for the UK Health Protection Agency.
It is interesting but not surprising to read the response in support of the phone industry from Prof Will Stewart as he was previously the Chief Scientist at Marconi and is the Chairman for the IET which appear to be an industry loaded Government advisory group on policy for communications technology. The Government are currently receiving an estimated £20 billion per year in taxation from mobile phone technology, it is a cash cow. I fear this is false economy as the loss of young lives and productivity in the workplace due to illness from this technology could eventually outweigh the benefits. Are we prepared to continue taking risks with public health?
The public would be wise to listen to the advice of truly independent scientists rather that industry sponsored institutes.
